Experiencing God through Theological Reflection
Kathryn
Palen,
Facilitator
Theology is one of those words that can sound a bit scary or overwhelming. But the work of thinking theologically belongs in each person’s faith journey. This workshop will allow participants to experience several types of theological reflection. These experiences will help participants gain a better understanding of how an awareness of their beliefs can impact the way they live and practice their faith.
Experiencing God through Journaling
Virginia Bradley,
Facilitator
Virginia
Bradley, who has kept a variety of devotional and personal journals for
years, will lead us in this experience.
Come, whether you are a seasoned journalist or a newcomer.
Experience putting your thoughts, ideas, prayers, or simply "jottings"
on paper.
Experiencing God through Music
Rev. Betty-Rae
Taylor, Facilitator
Colossians 3:16-17 ~ Psalm 150
The aim and final end of all music should be
none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.
(Johann Sebastian Bach) We’ll read what Scripture have to say
about music, share our personal experience of God’s presence in music,
and explore how we bring others into the presence of God through music.
If you have a hymn or spiritual song that is especially meaningful for
you, bring the music along with you. You will also need your
Bible.
Experiencing God through Scripture
Rev. Leigh
Johnson, Facilitator
These
experiences will focus on one of the traditional ways of reading
Scripture called Lectio Divina, which means divine reading.
Its purpose is not to gain knowledge but to hear God's Word
through a slow, thoughtful, repeated reading of a passage and meditating
upon it. Psalm 119:15 says,
"I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways."
We will briefly go over the basic steps of this approach, spend
time in the practice of it, and close with a time for discussion and
questions.
Experiencing God through Fiction and Film
Rev. Evan Howard,
Facilitator
Because
the gospel of Christ is the greatest story ever told, all other stories
are related to it. By understanding the dimensions of this story
that make it profound and timeless, we gain insight into our own life
stories. This experience will help us do this by relating the
Christ story to popular novels and films. As we explore the
intersection between artistic truth and spiritual truth, we will
encounter our life stories in a way that is redemptive and transforming.
Led by Evan Drake Howard, author of the novel THE GALILEAN SECRET

Experiencing God through
Spiritual Direction
Rev. Reppa Cottrell, Facilitator
"Life with the Holy Spirit"
Learning to live life as a
spiritual journey; seeing Christ in everyday living.
We will experience silence, centering prayer and Lectio Divina.
Experiencing God through Drama
Donna Colletti Lowre, Facilitator
THE WISDOM OF SOPHIA WITHIN EACH OF US
Donna will use her powerful and empowering one-woman play, In Her Own
Voice, as the centerpiece to this faith-building experience. The
play gives distinctive voice to named, and unnamed, women in
Scripture. Donna portrays these ancient mothers and sisters as real
women whose lives can inform and enrich our lives and ministries.
Donna will perform part of the
play followed by interactive time focusing on these women in
relationship to Sophia, the narrator of the play, and how these women
can impact our lives today.
Donna Colletti Lowre was an award winning actress, singer and director
before becoming a Pastor. She has performed many roles from Shakespeare
to commercials, in theater, TV and film. She answered her call to
ministry in 2004, receiving her M.Div. with honors from Andover-
Newton Theological School in 2008. Donna brings her God-given talents to
churches, retreats and conferences. She creates different styles of
worship services and choreographs liturgical dance. She has served as
pastor and has written and performs sacred hymns and songs.
Experiencing God through
Guided Imagery
Rev. Dr. Liliana DaValle, Facilitator
Come and experience a journey to your inner self and your relationship with God; get in touch with your deeper feelings and insights about your faith; and emerge a spiritually revitalized person. This spiritual practice will open new doors for you to connect with the Lord by using the power of your imagination.
Experiencing God through
Poetry
Linda Bausserman, Facilitator
We will use
techniques similar to Lectio Divina to discern God’s voice through
examples of spiritual writings. We will use both modern poets such as
Ted Loder and Mary Oliver and older writings (Thomas a Kempis,
