Spiritual Care Coordinator-

Location:  Elmhurst Extended Care and Tockwotton both in Providence

Hours: 20 hours

Salary: $20 per hour

Job Description: Proposal for Spiritual Care Coordinators Program

 

·         The Spiritual Care Coordinators Program is designed to work cooperatively with nursing home staff to meet the spiritual needs of institutionalized elders. The program will spear head meeting the following identified needs:

-Providing regular worship services for the nursing home community

-Developing activities to nourish the spirits and spiritual lives of the nursing home

community

-Identifying and meeting the needs of the nursing home community at times of

death

-Maintaining connections with local clergy and their faith communities for the

benefit of residents & families

 

·         The vision for this project includes providing for the spiritual needs of elderly residents by raising the spiritual consciousness of staff members and volunteers who have gifts of love to share. The vision also includes reconnecting local churches and synagogues with their institutionalized members in a way that enhances the lives of elders as well as raising awareness of the value of elders to the entire community.

To accomplish this vision, the program will employ Spiritual Care Coordinators who will:

-Train, equip and mentor volunteers & staff in providing meaningful worship

services, utilizing the Simeon's Ministry model.

-Coach activities directors, their staff and volunteers in developing and

implementing a variety of spiritually nourishing activities with an interfaith

perspective, to elders as well as families and staff who wish to participate.

Examples include: Bible study, ethics and spiritual discussion groups, iconic

reflection, reminiscing, Taize prayers, sacred music reflection, rosary, etc.

-Facilitate End-of-Life staff team in the the development of responses to the spiritual needs of residents, families and staff during the dying process.

-Network with community clergy and lay leaders to maintain communication and

continuity of spiritual care for elders in rehab and acute units, as well as long-term

residents who wish to stay connected with their local parish.

-Engage local churches in creative ministry with institutionalized elders to provide

visitation, prayer time, intergenerational activities, Eucharist visits, musical

performances, holy day celebrations, etc.

·         Qualifications for Spiritual Care Coordinators include:

-At least two units of clinical pastoral education

-Experience with and affinity for the elder population

-Working knowledge of the Rhode Island faith community

-Excellent communication and networking skills

-Demonstrated ability to mentor & teach

 -Strong spiritual life with an interfaith perspective

 -Ability to use communications technology



QUALIFICATIONS:

•Must be anointed by God to deliver the gospel message of redemption and growth with depth,
understanding and authority

•An advanced degree from an American Association Theological Seminary (AATS), an accredited
Seminary

•Ordained to the Gospel Ministry

•Three to Five years experience in the ministry as a pastor or equivalent experience

•Experience in church leadership, planning, and management

•Have theology that will be consistent with traditional Baptist beliefs

•Ability to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to others with an open and caring spirit

•Excellent counseling and interpersonal skills
